​Imagine swiping your credit card at a vending machine—but instead of buying a candy bar for yourself, you’re buying a sheep for a family in a third-world country. Or a polio vaccine. Or a pair of shoes. Or 100 meals for your local food bank. With the #LightTheWorld Giving Machines, that’s exactly what happens.

In Hawaii, every donation made through the Giving Machine supports local charities. For the first time since its launch in the islands, the Giving Machine has increased its contribution stations by more than fourfold, partnering with 18 charities statewide this year. These vibrant red boxes of goodwill will be situated at the Ala Moana Shopping Center and the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, with additional boxes at Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo, Hawaii, and Whalers Village in Kaanapali, Maui. Funds raised on each island will remain on that island to benefit the local community.
